What is COOLSCULPTING and what gets done in it?

Posted On Aug 13, 2022.

We may not appreciate body fat, especially when it builds up in particular places like our bellies or thighs, so to deal with these issues, we either opt to engage in fat-burning exercises or make lifestyle adjustments. Or perhaps, a few of us even decide to undergo body-sculpting procedures. One such procedure is Coolsculpting.

What is Coolsculpting?

Cryolipolysis, also known as CoolSculpting, is an FDA-approved fat-freezing procedure that tries to eliminate stubborn fat in specific areas of your body. Less risky than conventional fat removal techniques like liposuction, it targets fat in body areas that are harder to lose with diet and exercise.

By examining what happens to the fat after frostbite, scientists developed the concept of cryolipolysis. The cryolipolysis device cools your fat to a temperature that destroys it while leaving your skin and other tissues undamaged.

What happens in this procedure?

A surgeon or other qualified professional cools certain areas of your body to the point of freezing during a CoolSculpting procedure, where the fat cells in the area being treated are then frozen and killed. The dead fat cells are broken down by your body a few weeks after therapy. Therefore, it also eliminates them through your liver.
